Shipping a Motorcycle From Virginia to Montana for the Guys' Trip

Some trips get planned for years. A group of friends picks the dates, books the cabins, maps the roads and counts down the days. For this crew, the destination was Montana: big sky, open highways and some of the best riding in the country.
There was just one catch. The bike was in Virginia, more than 2,000 miles away, and it had to be in Montana before the guys rolled out. No bike, no trip. That's where Motorcycle Transporters came in.
Why Ship Instead of Ride?
Riding from Virginia to Montana sounds like an adventure, and it is. But it also means days in the saddle, hotel nights, fuel, tire wear and miles on the bike before the real trip even starts. Most people only get so many vacation days, and they'd rather spend them riding the mountains than crossing the Midwest.
Shipping the bike means you fly in rested and your motorcycle is waiting when you land. You spend every vacation day on the roads you came for.
How We Got It There
With a hard deadline, every step mattered:
- 1Planning around the trip date. We worked backward from the day the guys needed to ride so the pickup was early enough to beat it.
- 2Pickup in Virginia. Our driver picked up the bike and checked it over with the owner before loading.
- 3Secured for the long haul. The bike was strapped down and secured so it wouldn't shift over 2,000+ miles of highway.
- 4Moved in a large truck. We don't haul bikes on small, low trailers. Your motorcycle rides inside a large truck, protected from weather and road debris.
- 5Delivered in Montana, on time. The bike arrived ready to ride before the trip started.
The bike made it. The trip happened. We did it.
Tips for Shipping Your Vacation Bike
- Book early: transit usually takes 10 to 15 business days, so plan ahead of your trip date.
- Know the cost: most motorcycle shipments run $750 to $1,200. A coast-to-coast move is about $1,300.
- Prep the bike: fuel a quarter tank or less, check the battery, and remove loose bags and accessories.
- Take photos: photograph the bike from every side before pickup.
- Give a good delivery address: a hotel, rental cabin, dealership or friend's place can all work. Just make sure someone can meet the driver.
- Need extra protection? We can roll your bike onto a pallet and secure it there.
